Tutorial For A Fridge Magnet Made Using Tim Hotlz Caged Bird Die

I told you to keep some magnetic foam handy didn't I.... Well this is my first attempt at a fridge magnet with it... die cut of course!

I have cut 2 cages one from normal funky foam and one from magnetic foam (from Hobbycraft if you missed it before!)

And a little bird from thickish glitter card, i have just 3D'ed the wing with a little foam pad

Next i have glued the bird feet (after chopping off the branch) to the magnetic foam base with PVA, i have photographed with the glue wet so you can see it, if you put it all along you can move the bird around to suit.
You can notice in the pic that i bodged this die cut up and missed a little bit off of the corner, this wont matter as it will be covered up!

Next up you need to layer the normal funky foam die cut on the top, again if you use a wet glue you can move it around and get it level - i have also poked the wing out of the cage for some dimension

I thought it looked too plain so some bling was essential, dont forget to give the bird a twinkly little eye too!

Still too plain....

so i decided that some frosted lace stickles may make it look like a gnarled metal, i just scribbled them on

the glittered effect is not so harsh in real life the camera makes it look a bit blotchy

A couple of close ups to finish!

These Tim Holtz dies are difficult to get hold of at the moment but if you really want them, it may be worth going on a waiting list, Susan at http://www.countryviewcrafts.co.uk/ is keeping a waiting list which i would reccomend putting your name on, she will then contact you when they are in stock

hope you enjoyed this, i loved making it!
I am going to do some more magnets soon so keep that foam at the ready!
